Theories of Learning


Learning Style, is an individual’s innate or habitual pattern of decoding, processing, acquiring or absorbing information.

Learning is not easy. There are so many destructions that can slow down one’s learning process. Individuals also differ in how they learn. Some people effectively absorb information with the radio on, some when they hear themselves like reading/reciting aloud in their room or toilet. And some absorbs more when there is silence.

That is why it is important to know the best learning style for you. It will make you learning process easier, more effective and more pleasant. In applying the best and most effective learning style, you are actually using your strengths to maximise your your learning experience.

Learning is a complex process. So how will you know the effective learning style for you? Having a look at the different learning theories will help.

Learning theories are studies that aims to describe and explain the how individuals learn. It is most especially important in the teaching-learning process. Knowing how students learn will guide the teacher on how she will manage the class, how she will design the the teaching material, deliver the lesson and evaluate/assess the progress of each students.

Of course learning style varies from one learner to another. A teacher might have a class of 25 students and will have to handle 25 different learning styles. And so at the start of the course or semester, it will be advatageous for the teacher to assess, identify or get a good idea of how each of the students learn.
